Aaron Rodgers returned to MetLife Stadium on Thursday night, a year after his season was cut short by a torn Achilles, leading the New York Jets to a convincing 24-3 victory over the New England Patriots. The 40-year-old quarterback showcased his skills, completing 27 of 35 passes for 281 yards, two touchdowns—one each to Allen Lazard and Garrett Wilson—and rushing for 18 yards on three attempts.
This marked a significant moment for Wilson, who became the first wide receiver drafted in the first round to catch a touchdown pass from Rodgers, despite it being the four-time MVP’s 480th career TD.
“I was feeling real good out there,” Rodgers said, reflecting on the emotional return. “This was kind of the first step in playing like I know I’m capable of playing.”
The Jets' running game also thrived, with Breece Hall and Braelon Allen combining for 109 rushing yards on 27 carries. Meanwhile, the Patriots struggled offensively, with rookie quarterback Drake Maye making his debut in the fourth quarter after starter Jacoby Brissett faltered. Maye completed four of eight passes for 22 yards, facing a relentless Jets defense.
Overall, it was a triumphant night for Rodgers and the Jets, who finally clicked on offense after last season's struggles.
